Without a specific prompting to look for IT companies and PMPs, Payscale makes it clear that IT is where the money is for PMPs.
CAPM in IT – Is it worth it?
The short answer is yes. The long answer is there are a lot of job listings where the experience requirements for the job are less that the experience needed to sit for the PMP exam. Since there is no on-the-job experience needed for CAPM, just classroom time, you can get your CAPM, take an IT management job, then sit for the PMP exam in a few years.
In most cases, the salary bump for a PMP is about $20,000 over someone with similar experience, but without their certification.
The salary bump for a CAPM is about $7,000 to $10,000. Since the exam and even classes with a company like PMTI only cost a few hundred dollars, this might be the best ROI on your education you’re going to see.
