Project Management Professional certification exam

The Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (the PMBOK® Guide) and the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification exam will undergo a significant overhaul and revision in 2021. In particular, the latter will significantly reduce its sections from the current 5 – initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing – to 3 – people, processes, and business environment. It will now be crucial to know the processes and ITTOs, as well as the accompanying principles. Both theory and practice will take center-stage.

Prospective project managers will need to be prepared with real-life solutions to project management problems. The new exam outline approaches project management from a significantly more real-life application. Under this overhaul, understanding the “hows” and “whys” of project management will be just as critical as learning them in the first place.

This article, authored by Yad Senapathy, Founder and CEO, Project Management Training Institute, shares extremely valuable insights on the anticipated changes and the suggested strategies for the prospective PMPs to prepare for the disruption.
