What Are the Requirements to Sit for the CPMAI Exam?
There is no prior education, no experience, no prerequisite technical background, or any other certifications required by PMI to take the PMI-CPMAI exam, making this a much lower bar to qualify for, compared to the 36 to 60 months of project experience that is required to apply for the PMP.

What Does the 21-Hour Exam Prep Course Cover?
The course covers each of the six steps of the CPMAI methodology and the five weighted areas of the exam within 21 hours, and upon completion, learners receive 21 PDUs towards the PMP or CAPM certification renewal. What is the full CPMAI exam format? 
The PMI-CPMAI exam consists of 120 total questions: 100 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions that are randomly distributed throughout the exam. The exam duration is 160 minutes, and there are no scheduled breaks. Candidates can either go to the designated Pearson VUE testing center or take the exam via the OnVue Proctoring service. How Much Time Should I Set Aside for CPMAI Exam Prep?
To prepare for the CPMAI exam in four weeks, candidates working in AI adjacent roles should plan to take advantage of the optional 21-hour online course leading up to the exam. Other candidates, those who are brand new to AI and AI adjacent projects, should also plan for four weeks of preparation to ensure they adequately cover the material included in the exam. Remember- this time should not be thought of as the hard stop for preparation, but rather the soft start. It is always better to over prepare.

What Are the Biggest Mistakes Made When Preparing for the CPMAI Exam? 
The biggest mistakes made when preparing for the CPMAI exam are as follows: preparing each of the five topic domains equally when two of the domains combined are worth 52% of the exam. The exam is about much more than recalling the six phases of the CPMAI model. It’s about scenario-based decision-making; it’s about the context and application. Memorizing definitions is a waste of prep time. Preparing for the CPMAI exam means taking practice exams in the CPMAI exam format and ensuring you are prepared for the 120-question exam.
- Instead of memorizing phase names and definitions, practice applying them to project scenarios.
- Don’t skip full-length, timed practice exams. The 160-minute, no-break format of the actual exam is something that requires preparation.
- Don’t skip Domain I (Responsible and Trustworthy AI) because of its low weight (15% of 120 questions = 18 questions).
- Don’t rely only on the PMI introductory course to prepare for the exam. It is a one-hour preview, not a preparation course for a domain-level exam.
How do I register for and schedule the CPMAI exam?
To register for the exam, you must complete the 21-hour Exam Prep Course. After the course, you must schedule your exam through Pearson VUE, and you must complete your scheduled exam within 12 months of the course completion date. You can select in-person test centers, or the Online Proctored exam through OnVue. The PMI Exam does not require a Membership, nor a separate application review process, making the certification scheduling process far simpler than the others that conduct an experience audit.

What Occurs Following an Unsuccessful First Attempt?
Those who do not pass the exam that first time, have three years to try and pass the exam three more times. The three tries must be after a 30 day waiting period. The candidate must try to schedule the exam with Pearson VUE in order to do each of those three tries. The costs associated with each try was not able to be confirmed, thus to get current with the cost, PMI must be contacted.

What Should You Do in the Last Few Days Before Your Exam?
In the days leading up to your exam, take practice exams, do not study new materials, and answer the “what if” type questions about your exam logistics, especially your Pearson VUE. Most of the new parts of the exam process should be completed at least 48 hours prior to the exam to avoid complications. Studying new materials in the last 48 hours prior to the exam has been shown to increase anxiety and decrease retention.
Take at least one full-length practice exam the week of, in one sitting, and in 160 minutes.
Review your practice exam scores and figure out what your worse percentages were. Use your extra time to study the domains that you scored the worst in.
Confirm the testing logistics days prior to your exam. This will allow you to prepare an acceptable ID, do the OnVue system check if you are planning to do your exam virtually, and confirm your seat time.
Allow yourself time to complete the tutorial to avoid using any of your exam time while you wait for the system to be ready to start your exam.
