PMI ATP Corporate Training: How Employers Evaluate Authorized Providers

Employers evaluate a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) on 5 checks: the provider’s PMI directory listing, instructor training, PMI-licensed course content, delivery fit, and training records. Beginning 1 December 2026, live instructor-led PMP training counts toward the 35-hour requirement only when an ATP, a China REP, or an eligible accredited program delivers it.

That rule turns provider selection into an eligibility decision for every employee who plans to apply for the PMP. This guide gives the checks, the group formats, and the questions a proposal must answer. For the full ATP definition, read PMI Authorized Training Partner (PMI-ATP) Since 2003.

Why Do Employers Choose PMI ATP Providers?

Employers choose ATPs for 4 reasons: PMI-developed course content, instructors trained through PMI, pre-approved PDUs, and training that counts toward the PMP 35-hour requirement. PMI also lists corporations, governments, universities, and PMI chapters as group-training clients.

  • Content. PMI states that only ATPs use PMI official course content, and PMI-licensed material is not optional for PMP exam prep.
  • Instructors. PMI states that ATP trainers hold the certifications they teach.
  • PDUs. PMI pre-approves ATPs to offer PDUs, so a team member keeps the certification current while training.
  • Eligibility. ATP courses are designed to satisfy the 35-hour requirement.

PMI describes ATP group training as a way to upskill or reskill a team, in person or virtual, anywhere in the world. PMI also points to standardized practices across teams as a result.

What Does the 1 December 2026 Rule Change for In-House PMP Training?

From 1 December 2026, live instructor-led PMP training counts only when an ATP, a China REP, or an eligible accredited academic program delivers it. An internal class led by a non-ATP trainer does not count for the 35 hours.

Training completed before that date stays eligible under the rules in place at the time. Qualifying hours never expire. PMI’s self-paced PMP Exam Prep Course counts as well, at 35 hours, and an active CAPM certification waives the requirement.

Three employer situations follow:

  1. Plan every live PMP cohort that starts after 1 December 2026 with an ATP.
  2. Keep pre-December records for employees who already finished a course.
  3. Match each employee to the right path: ATP class, self-paced course, or CAPM waiver.

Books and practice exams alone do not meet the requirement. The details sit in PMI ATP vs Non-ATP Training: 8 Differences That Affect PMP Preparation.

What Do Vendor Approval Teams Check?

What Do Vendor Approval Teams Check

Vendor approval teams check 5 items: the provider’s PMI ATP directory listing, the ATP badge dates, instructor Train the Trainer completion, the PMI-licensed kit and version, and the training records delivered per learner.

Run the 5 checks in order:

  1. Search the provider’s legal name in the PMI ATP directory.
  2. Read the digital ATP badge for its start date and authorization period.
  3. Request each instructor’s name and proof of PMI Train the Trainer for the course.
  4. Confirm the kit: the PMI-licensed student kit, its version, and the knowledge check.
  5. Require a completion record per learner, since PMI requests proof if an application is selected for audit.

The verification steps sit in How to Verify a PMI Authorized Training Partner in the Official ATP Directory. The kit inventory sits in PMI-Licensed Course Content: What ATP Students Receive.

A directory listing alone does not equal “corporate vendor approval.” Each employer sets its own vendor rules. Ask your procurement team which documents it requires, and request them from the ATP in writing.

What Group Sizes Do ATPs Serve?

PMI sets no group-size tiers on its ATP pages. Each ATP defines its own. PMTI’s quote form uses 4 headcount bands: 5 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 50, and 50 or more participants.

PMI’s group-training pages name corporations, governments, universities, and chapters as recipients. They publish no minimum or maximum class size. Group size therefore becomes a provider term to confirm in writing.

Size shapes four decisions:

  • Format. A team of 8 fits one live online cohort. A team of 60 needs multiple cohorts or an onsite class.
  • Schedule. PMTI offers blocks such as 4 consecutive days, 2 consecutive weekends, or a client-defined schedule.
  • Pricing. Many providers price by headcount, so ask for the tier boundaries and the exact discount in writing.
  • Reporting. Larger cohorts need a per-learner progress report for managers.

How Do Custom Corporate Programs Work?

How Do Custom Corporate Programs Work

A custom corporate program tailors schedule, delivery mode, cohort size, and reporting around PMI’s licensed core. PMP exam prep content stays PMI-provided. Employers submit a request, receive a proposal, and agree the terms before the first class.

PMI’s ATP page states that training can be customized to business needs. PMI also requires PMI-provided materials for PMP exam preparation. Both statements hold. The customization sits around the core, not inside it.

Ask each provider which of 4 levers it customizes:

  1. Schedule. Evenings, weekends, or consecutive days.
  2. Delivery. Live online, onsite at your location, or hybrid.
  3. Cohort. Department teams or mixed teams.
  4. Reporting. Completion records and progress reports for managers.

A proposal answers 6 questions:

  1. Which PMI-licensed kit and version does each learner receive?
  2. Who teaches, and which ATP affiliates the instructor?
  3. What schedule and delivery mode apply?
  4. What does the fee include, such as practice exams, PMI Study Hall, and post-course support? The pricing breakdown sits in PMI ATP Training Cost: What Authorized PMP Courses Include.
  5. Which records does each learner receive?
  6. What happens to a learner who misses a session?

How Does PMTI Handle Corporate Training?

PMTI presents itself as a PMI Premier Authorized Training Partner in Dallas, TX, and runs group programs for teams online, onsite, and hybrid. Verify the listing with the 5 checks above, then request a proposal.

PMTI’s group page lists the same four headcount bands (5-10, 11-20, 21-50, 50+), three delivery modes, and five schedule options. Run the 5 checks on PMTI as you would on any provider. When the listing and badge match, request a quote on Corporate PMP Training for Teams of 5 or More.
